Mangalore With Prem

It has been long since we have had and excursions and we are all waiting for a plan to materialize. The reason being people moving out top different places; like Prem has moved to Mangalore and Girish has moved to Hyderabad for some time. We all have kind of accepted this and our going on with our mundane lives; work, TV, sleep, with nothing else to do or even thinks about.

But suddenly Prem has an idea, why don’t we come over to Mangalore. Ya, that could be a possibility; we could lie out at the beaches for hours, go to some good pubs and then of course have a bite at the famous Mangalorean dishes, especially the sea food.

It didn’t take much time to think it out and Prem did the formality of booking the tickets fast so that we do not go over the idea over and over again and finally scrap it out. The plan was worked out and to my amazement, our dear old Sathe uncle too joined us when he heard that we are planning to go by bus, not on bikes.

We reached Mangalore on Saturday morning and moved on to Prem’s place, near the City Corporation, for a small nap and refreshments. I was shocked at his place; never thought Pandi would maintain his place this well. By around 09:30, we moved over to our first beach, Sultan Battery, which is near his place. The water was very salty, and we played around for about 2 hours till we were totally exhausted. We then returned back and had a nice sleep while Chotu, aka Mohammed, watched Sarkar.

Next we planned to see a movie at the only multiplex in Mangalore. Now Uncle Sathe wanted to see OSO, while Chotu, aka Mohammed, was crying for Goal. We finally watched Goal and are still screwing Chotu for the watch.

Evening was chilled out at, as usual, a pub. It is called Zero Degree. It was quite a nice place with lots of refreshments for the eyes. But again, we were so tired that we had to return after a few drinks. Next we had the opportunity to have the much talked about ice cream from Pabbas. I was astonished to see that it was a small shop rather than a huge posh joint. But I must admit the ice creams were awesome. We then returned for a nice cozy sleep to prepare for the next day.

On Sunday, we went to the beach in Surakal, near the NIT. The waters were damn salty but we got really scared when we found out that the waves here pull out into the sea as well. It took us some time to get accustomed to the waves and then it was fun playing with the waves. Here, they buried me under the sand and made stuff on my back with the sand. I have to return this favor soon. Next stop was a place famous for its Fish Fry. Since, me and Mohammed were planning to have fish, we went there and it was good. Kerala rice with good fish always reminds me of my mom.

That’s it. We do some shopping and then return back to Mysore by the night bus. But, yes most of our assumptions about Mangalore have changed. Yes, I would definitely want to go there again. Of course, it cannot beat the Mysore climate. There a far more stuff that you can do there than in Mysore and it not that congested as Bangalore.
