Ravindra's Wedding

Hmmm, well, weddings are some occasions that you certainly do not wish to miss; especially if one of your closest friend or colleague is getting married. Ravindra has been a great friend, my colleague, and very recently my onsite coordinator as well. At offshore, he used to be the buzz in our project, with comic mimicry (especially Selvaraju’s), fun and of course work. He had a habit of biting his nails which every one of us used to point him out.

His marriage was one occasion that I did not intend to miss. We had planned the whole journey, booked the cabs, and were just waiting for the day. And when the day came, guess what, I was the last one to wake up, and hence delay the whole trip by about 2 hours.

We started the journey at about 9:30 AM from Mysore to reach Hassan (the marriage was to happen there) in about 2 hours. The trip started with chats along with Kannada songs that I did not understand and routine discussions. However, Goti, was a little sleepy and seeing him take small naps, I just could not resist the ultimate temptation and went to sleep AGAIN for the whole journey (I am still getting chilled looks from Rohini for this act).

Once we reached Hassan, we quickly went over to the marriage mandap, and were quite happy to see Ravi in the traditional costume. We all were tempted to actually go to the mandap and actually have some fun; but of course you cannot do that.

I was totally amazed at the rituals that take place during an Indian Wedding; they just never seem to end. There was one ritual where the bride and the groom have to hold a pot of sacred/blessed water, while well wishers would come up and put rice on them. Their forehands must be aching after the whole thing which lasted for about 1 hour. But I guess, all this is worth it when you are getting married to the one you loved and know and it feels like so divine.

Once the rituals are over, we have the Sadhya, the typical Veggie lunch, and then over to the reception where again the couple had come over, quickly changing into a different attire. Ravi was looking smart today. I guess everybody does on their MayDay.
